The 208-bed Center will serve individuals with mental health and substance use disorders diverted from the criminal justice system or at risk for being taken into the criminal justice system. The Center will offer a comprehensive continuum of mental health, substance use, and primary healthcare services targeting high-cost, high-need individuals who are most often underserved by the public health system.
The Miami Center for Mental Health and Recovery will provide a system of coordinated behavioral and primary healthcare for mental illness and substance abuse for our community’s most vulnerable individuals. This system will deliver a seamless continuum of care and supportive guidance that will enable individuals with serious mental illness and substance abuse to maximize stability, functioning, and/or recovery.
Individuals with serious mental illness and substance abuse will receive the highest levels of evidenced based care in order to increase their potential for recovery. Our community will achieve substantial savings in police, court, jail and recurrent hospitalization costs and deploy the savings for prevention, early treatment intervention and recovery oriented supportive services. The Miami Center for Mental Health and Recovery, as our community’s leading full service integrated continuum of care for individuals with mental illness, will serve as the standard bearer for driving and cultivating excellence in clinical treatment, innovation, workforce training and research for South Florida.
