Thriving Mind South Florida is the non-profit organization that provides safety-net access to evidence-based, compassionate care for people with mental illnesses and substance use disorders for the southern region of Florida. Created by Florida statute and funded by the Department of Children and Families and other state, federal and local agencies, Thriving Mind and the other six regional managing entities offer the most accountable and cost-effective services for behavioral health in Florida.
Thriving Mind oversees all safety-net services for uninsured and underinsured individuals in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties, serving 229,712 individuals in Fiscal 2021-2022, including services not funded by existing for-profit managed Medicaid Florida contracts. We are local and – like local fire/rescue – support core services such as mobile response teams (MRTs) for mental health crises and 911 for mental health emergency calls. We are also the local agency that has worked for years in coordination with law enforcement to divert appropriate individuals into treatment versus arrest. For individuals who do get arrested, we work with the courts to connect people into treatment as needed.
