Thriving Mind Peer Services Manager Writes About Reuniting With Daughter

Thriving Mind Peer Services Manger
I wanted to take a minute to invite everyone to join us as we celebrate Reunification Month this June.
This month is very special to me. As many of you know, I was reunified with my daughter in 2016. That process was my catalyst for change and I am so grateful to be able to share that journey with everyone I come in contact with. The process of reunification is not easy. It’s incredibly difficult so celebrating these parents is really important and special. They have endured endless months of services, hard work and determination all while living through an incredibly traumatic stage of life. Having your children placed in someone else’s care and custody is one of the most difficult things I have ever experienced. Some days the shame and guilt were almost too much to handle. But here we are. And here I am. Because of this experience, I have made it my life’s mission to support, encourage, CELEBRATE, and advocate for these parents.
So, please join me in celebrating them! Below you will find the flyer, the calendar of events and the link to the event webpage. I have conducted a few “family presentations” where I will be doing a short interview with some of the parents talking about their experiences. On June 26th we will have the big virtual celebration and on June 30th will be my live presentation. I will share my story, talk about my work and the work of Child Welfare Peers and why it’s so important to amplify the voices of biological parents in the system. There will also be community resource presentations and trainings.
